E. Gene Burns Jr. M.D.
The physicians and staff of Turner Medical Clinic are pleased to welcome E. Gene Burns, Jr., M.D. to St. James Parish. Dr. Burns is from the mountains of Sevierville, TN, but has lived along the bayou since 1994. He received a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee and his M.D. from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1991. He completed a residency in Family Practice at East Tennessee State University in 1994. From 1994 to 2001, he practiced medicine at LaPlace Medical Center, and he served as a preceptor for medical students at both LSU and Tulane Medical Schools. He is a past president for the River Parishes Medical Society. Since 2001, he has filled in for physicians in various clinics and emergency rooms, gaining valuable experience in many more facets of primary care, emergency and occupational medicine. One of his positions included working at Concentra, Inc in New Orleans performing both occupational medicine duties as well as travel medicine.
Dr. Burns has served as a deputy coroner for St. John Parish from 1994 to the present and hopes to also serve as deputy coroner in St. James Parish. He served as the Vice President of the River Parishes Medical Society from 1998-2000, then as President from 2000-2001. He also very much enjoys being the team physician for the Riverside football team for the past 10 years.
Dr. Burns and his wife, Michele, live in St. John parish. They have four children: Alexandra, 14, Gene III, 12, Andrew, 9, and Serena, 7. His hobbies include hiking, camping, reading, marksmanship, scuba and travel.
Dr. Burns’ patient care philosophy of “high-tech training with hometown friendliness” fits very well with the “Turner style.” We are excited to have him with us to continue caring for the needs of our community.
