Candy M. Turner M.D. Candy M. Turner M.D.

Dr. Candy Turner was born in Slidell, Louisiana, the youngest (living) sibling in a family of ten children.  She attended Louisiana State University, where she met Dr. Joe Turner, and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy (Summa cum Laude and with College Honors). While at LSU, she was inducted into several honor societies, most notably Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi; she served as president of both Alpha Lambda Delta and Mu Sigma Rho Honor Societies.   While working at LSU Medical School in New Orleans after graduating and marrying Dr. Joe, she decided to pursue a medical career as well. She attended UNO part-time for three years to obtain her prerequisite courses for medical school and was admitted to LSUMC in the fall of 1984, coinciding with the birth of her first son, Jason.  She took a one-year sabbatical from medical school in 1986, and received her MD degree in May, 1989.  She completed an internship in Family Practice at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital on July 1, 1990.  She then joined her father-in-law and husband at Turner Medical Clinic and awaited the birth of her second son, Michael, in the spring of 1991.

Dr. Candy enjoys ITA Tae Kwon Do, in which she currently holds the rank of red belt.  She plays soprano bugle in the Echoes group of the Greater New Orleans Drum Corps Association, and paints in oils, often using Dr. Joe’s photography for reference and inspiration.  She also enjoys reading science fiction, cooking, and making Christmas ornaments
