Joseph P. Turner M.D.

Dr. Joseph Turner was born right here in St.
James Parish Hospital in Lutcher, LA. He attended St. Peter
Chanel in Paulina, and then graduated valedictorian of St.
Joseph Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Baton Rouge, LA. He
graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a
B.S. in Biochemistry, and then attended LSU Medical School in
New Orleans. He was awarded a prestigious membership in Alpha
Omega Alpha medical honor society as a junior and received his
M.D. in 1985. He completed a Family Practice residency as chief
resident at Washington-St. Tammany Charity Hospital in Bogalusa,
LA in 1988.
Dr. Joe joined his father in practice in Lutcher in July, 1988. He also worked as an Emergency Room physician for both St. James Parish Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. Between 1988 and 1990 Dr. Joseph Turner completed the Core Curriculum of Occupational Medicine offered by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and has over 15 years experience performing occupational medicine services. He also became a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) for interpreting drug screen results. He is the medical director of the acute care unit of St. James Parish hospital and is also vice-chairman of the St. James Parish Hospital Board of Commissioners.
Dr. Joe and his wife, Candy, have two children: Jason age 24 and Michael age 17. His hobbies include singing, performing on stage especially in musicals, playing guitar and keyboards, and photography. He specializes in photographing hummingbirds and other Louisiana birds.
