Pain Management
In 1999, Dr. Joe and Dr. Candy were involved in a
serious automobile accident. For Dr. Joe it was nearly fatal, but he
came out of it with a greater appreciation for what patients go
through during a prolonged hospital stay. He also understands what
long-term physical therapy and rehabilitation entails, as well as
what chronic pain is like. Over the last few years, Dr. Joe has
learned a great deal about the treatment of chronic pain. He is
especially interested in treatments that do not involve pain
medications. Through physical therapy, topical medications,
injections, limited oral medications and electrical stimulation
treatments, almost all pain should be controllable without the use
of narcotics.
Now Turner Medical Clinic can offer advanced electrical stimulation treatments to patients in pain. This new type of electrical stimulation is called Horizontal Therapy. It is very different from the Estim treaments used by Physical Therapists or Chiropractors, and different from TENS units. Treatments can be for acute injuries such as back or neck strains, as well as chronic pain from numerous causes. Usually the treatments involve a series of 5 treatments of 45 minutes each on a daily or every other day schedule. Marked improvement in pain and range of motion can frequently be experienced after the very first treatment. Insurances consider this these treatments "experimental" and thus they are not covered, but patients can attest to the success they have had and agree the treatments are worth the minimal cost.
Please be aware that Dr. Joseph Turner is NOT board certified as a pain management specialist, nor does he want referrals for pain management. Rather, this is a service available to treat established patients of Turner Medical Clinic. It is a part of the Turner Medical Clinic commitment to provide its patients with high quality and compassionate medical care
